HORTICULTRE FARMS ARE WAITING FOR VISITORS
Welcome to our joint FLOWER FAIR
3 August 2013 - 9.30-18.00
If you want us to send you a reminder before the Flower Fair then leave your e-mail HERE.
Karla Village was a well-known gardening region
already during the Soviet time - there was the gardening unit of the collective
farm named by Johannes Lauristin, which used to employ many people. Every
summer, the gardening unit organised a Flower Day where they offered flower
exhibitions, workshops, entertainment, gardening contests, lectures and other
opportunities to learn about gardening. The main organisers of the former
Flower Day event were the owners of Roogoja Horticulture Farm – Uno and Aili
Kivistik.
Flower Fair (Lilleralli) has become a project that now covers and introduces the whole area of Karla Village
Roogoja Horticulture Farm’s clematis collection is undoubtedly the main attraction of the Flower Fair. At the beginning of August, the clematis garden is blooming and showing off its best. Every year, both local and foreign tourists visit the garden. Roogoja Farm is especially popular with foreign visitors (mostly from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Russia, Latvia; There have also been visitors from USA, Canada, Australia and Japan). The Clematis collection of Roogoja Horticulture Farm is known to be the northernmost collection. Therefore, the professionals from other Nordic countries are interested in the varieties that have adapted to our climate. The farm will exhibit the collection of 23 wild species of Clematis and over 270 varieties and hybrids. The Flower Fair is the best time to visit the farm - its garden is blooming, there is some gardening themed entertainment for both adults and kids, and the entrance is free.
Sadevälja Horticulture Farm, a very well renovated family farm where both the old farm house and garden are real sightseeings. During the Flower Fair, the owners of the farm – a professional gardener and landscape designer Jana Proos and her husband Margus will instruct visitors how to create a wonderful garden like theirs. They have given to the landscape design of their garden a lot of thought and the result is very inspiring. There you will find a peat garden, perennial flower beds, a small water body, an herb garden, a vegetable garden, etc. All together, the area of the landscaped garden is over one hectare. The farm has received several awards of the “Most Beautiful Garden” contest.
Pearnahansu Horticulture Farm was a professional gardening place already during the first Republic of Estonia before the Soviet occupation. The heart of Pearnahansu Farm is Tõnis Tenso, who is a passionate plant lover. He is a self-taught man with a lot of experience. The farm shows and provides detailed information on different varieties of spireas, cinquefoils, honeysuckles, dogwoods, hydrangeas and brooms, etc. Tõnis also instructs how to use trees, shrubs, tussocks and ground cover plants in the garden so as to make the further maintenance easier and more convenient.
Roosoja Horticulture Farm is still in the planting stage and by the time of the Flower Fair the roses will have finished blooming. Therefore, the garden is not open to visitors during the fair. However, you can find the products and rose plants from Roosoja farm on the farm's selling place. The lady of the farm Christi Unt is also assisting in the garden as well as at different games and workshops.
